Police are hunting dog thieves caught on CCTV snatching a Jack Russell dog – that has been stolen for a second time, leaving her owners distraught.
Ross Withers and his family are appealing for help after their much-loved Jack Russell, Pippa, was taken at around 8pm on Sunday from their farm in Probus, near Truro.
In CCTV footage of the theft, a vehicle can be seen approaching the farm house before driving off shortly afterwards.
Mr Withers says the family are beside themselves and just want Pippa back home with their other dogs.
He thinks there were around four people in the car – possibly two men and two women – and they were “shouting and messing about” on the farm before disappearing with the black and tan coloured dog.
By the time he realised what had happened and gave chase, they were long gone and the family would like to hear from anyone with information.
Pippa was also stolen a year ago but was returned two days later after her theft went viral.
Dad-of-two Ross is offering a large cash reward for information or her safe return and said he can’t imagine how Pippa must be feeling.
“I’m just imagining how she is feeling right now. If she is shut in some cage wondering where I am,” he said.
“I was looking at her seconds before while they were roaming around and then suddenly she wasn’t there.
“My wife was calling and I was whistling and she would usually come straight back from a mile away. There is no chance that she has run off or anything. I would put my children’s lives on those people having taken Pippa.”
He said he watched the people the entire time but couldn’t make out what they were doing.
“I’m usually terrible for flying out there and confronting them. I did think, ‘what are they doing?’ And I could hear our other dog beneath me going berserk but Pippa had run straight over to them to see what they are doing, she’s so friendly.”
He continued: “As soon as I heard my wife shouting for Pippa I heard the penny drop,” he said. “I jumped in the car and went after them but there were so many cars and they were long gone.”
The family thinks that the vehicle may have been a BMW but it is not clear from the CCTV footage.
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed it is investigating a report that a dog was stolen.
It said: “We are investigating a report that a dog was stolen from a rural address in the Probus area at around 8pm on Sunday 3 October.
“The dog is described as a small, female, short-haired Jack Russell who is black and tan in colour.”
